Mission
The mission of the People’s Hurricane Relief Fund (PHRF) is to win the right of return with equity and justice for all those displaced as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita by building a multi-national mass movement, and to ensure that the civil and human rights of all New Orleans and Gulf Coast residents are respected and implemented throughout the United States

What We Do. What We Support

We organize to build strong political coalitions locally, nationally, and internationally to win the demands of the Survivors.

We support and network service providers of housing, health care, case management and legal services to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and residents. We do not provide direct services.

We network individuals, organizations, and institutions to build coalitions and meet some of the immediate needs of Survivors.

We support research and exploration of alternative funding resources for individuals for rent, utilities and moving-related expenses.

We engage in grassroots community organizing to build an independent power base in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast to win justice for the Survivors and Residents.

We maintain a resource and service provision guide to support the needs of IDPs and Residents.

We provide political education and training to Survivors and solidarity supporters to develop the Katrina Survivors self-determination movement.

We engage in political research and policy development to win the demands of the Survivors.

We engage in political action specifically mass agitation and mobilization to win the demands of the Survivors.

We organize to build independent institutions to advance the Survivors self-determination movement.
